Only Real (http://onlyrealreal.com/) è il nome d’arte di Niall Galvin, uno dei nuovi artisti provenienti da Londra Ovest. È un ragazzo poco più che ventenne che ha fuso atmosfere lo-fi, psych-pop e sunshine pop a momenti rappeggianti. Influenze provenienti da Pavement, Yo la Tengo, e molto altro succulento indie anni Novanta centrifugato con rap e hip hop. Galvin è stato paragonato a Jamie T e King Krule ma in realtà ha un suo stile ben preciso e originale in cui testi e video sembrano tutt’altro che British. Basti vedere Cadillac Girl o il nuovo video Pass The Pain (diretto da lui stesso): suoni immersi nel sole estivo accompagnati da chitarre contagiose, cantato ammiccante e un groove irresistible mentre l’estetica vintage, che sembra ripresa da una VHS, si combina perfettamente. Nulla da invidiare a colleghi statunitensi, in particolare californiani. Dopo l’ep Days In The City l’artista ha recentemente lavorato con Ben H. Allen e Dan Carey al suo album di debutto tra America e Inghilterra. Il disco verrò pubblicato nel 2015 per la Virgin EMI Records. Qui un paio dei miei scatti fatti a Londra in occasione del suo live all’Ace Hotel a Shoreditch.

ENG: Only Real is the stage name of Niall Galvin, one of the new artists from West London. He’s a guy in his early twenties who has combined lo-fi, psych-pop and sunshine pop atmospheres to rap moments. Influences are from Pavement, Yo la Tengo, and more luscious indie from Nineties centrifuged with rap and hip hop. Galvin is compared to Jamie T and King Krule but he’s got a very specific and original style in which lyrics and videos seem anything British. Just take a look to Cadillac Girl or the new video Pass The Pain (directed by himself): sounds immersed in the summer sun, accompanied by contagious guitars, alluring vocals and an irresistible groove while the vintage aesthetic, which seems taken from a VHS combines perfectly. Nothing to envy from American colleagues, in particular Californians. After the ep Days In The City, the artist was recently working with Ben H. Allen and Dan Carey at his debut album in America and England. The album will come in 2015, published by Virgin EMI Records.
