Composing a new piece of music and sending it out to all my quarantined Tredici Bacci bandmates was one of the only ways I could imagine coping with the loss of musical collaboration. The decision to try and make it into a film as well only came from realizing what an incredible spectacle it would be to see everyone, each in their different circumstance, forming a musical community which extended across the country. Also, of course, I missed seeing everyone! And wanted to appreciate all of their perfect faces. As people started sending in videos I was amazed at how creative everyone was being with their locations, their costumes, their dances and attitudes! Some people were even experimental – substituting a bunch of bananas or a stuffed pig in the place of themselves.
It proved to me that even though we are all trapped in our homes, trying to stay safe and keep the community around us healthy, we are all bursting with creative inspiration and ideas, and trying to find new ways to express ourselves in this strange new situation. It was so exciting to see all of my musical compatriots respond to this idea in their own unique and special ways.
From then on for me it was just a matter of organizing everyones perfect films so that they could all be appreciated at the same time, and in a way that would make people want to watch the film over and over again to appreciate all the little details and surprises! It was incredibly difficult because I’m not very experienced in video editing, but it was also very fun to work with the footage of all these people who I love so much.
For a backstory I wanted to draw on the idea of someone using their imagination to make up for what they miss most while being in quarantine – for me that is definitely making music with a large group of musicians – its all I care about! Its what I miss most of all and can’t wait to get back to as soon things go back to normal – assuming they do, that is!

Buona visione!
